Barbour silver bowl

My mother has a Barbour Silver bowl, embellished with grapes and leaves. Has the mark "Barbour S.P. Co" and "International Silver Co." with the number 9358 on the bottom. It has a 2 tiered insert with intricate cut-out patterns on both tiers. Can anybody provide any information about this dish and/or its use?

Hi,

Can you post a picture of your tray?  I have some Barbour Bros. silverplate teaset pieces in 1002 and I am interested to see just exactly what the tray looks like.

Thanks!

I just found out that I have a Barbour S.P. Co. International S. Co. #5530 teapot. I have tried to find it, but no luck. On one site I found the same shape, but w/detailed engraving which my teapot does not have. Mine is plain throughout.

As I recall the teapot(engraved)had a value of approx $125.00 to $150.00.

You should have no problem with the pictures as the system should be able to auto-scale them to fit properly. My suggestion is to use the "Photos" upload link. - Joseph

Re: would like an appraisal, please?

Barbour Silver Co. was organized in 1892 by Samuel L. Barbour, and others. In Aug. 1893, they took over some of the machinery and stock of the Hartford Silver Plate Co., organized in 1882 and believed to have been carried on for a short time under the name of Hartford Silver Co. When the Int'l Silver Co. was formed in 1898, Samuel L. Barbour, who had been active head of Barbour Silver Co. for several years, continued as manager of that branch (known as factory A) and was made a director of the new Co. and remained for several years after the plant was moved to the buildings formerly occupied by the Meriden Silver Plate Co. Samuel L. Barbour was born in Norwalk, Conn. about 1865 and died in San Francisco, Nov. 11, 1925. Instappraisal can give you an appraial at a very resonable fee. I have had several items appraised there and was very satisfied with their expertise and very good historical background. Hope this helps.

RE: Barbour Silver mark
The RSCEP mark is actually: BSCEP, which stands for Barbour Silver Company Extra/Electroplate. I believe it is silver plate over nickel silver. I have a very large Barbour tray that also contains several other marks as well...3 stars in boxes...numbers 5216/18...3 hallmarks, including 1 that is an arm, holding a sledge hammer, rising out of a basket. The other 2 marks are indescribable. Any help would be appreciated.

RE: Barbour Silver mark

Did you find any info on your plate? I also have a plate from Barbour. The numbers are 5216/15 on my plate. My plate also has the date of May 25 1917. I am trying to see how much this plate is worth. Any help would be appreciated.

RE: Barbour Silver mark

Sound similiar to what I have. I just found the marks on another site and that is how I found out what BSCEP stands for. My 3 pieces all have the same markings, some clearer than others. The first one is a lion with wings with the front paw raised, then what looks like a tulip-like flower, and then the arm (with sword?) rising out of the basket (or something) The other marking, unpon careful inspection, is a star-cross-star. I found a close-up picture of the marks on my pieces (that sound like yours, too) on the following site:
www.925-1000.com/silverplate Look under the initial "B" and click on Barbour Silver Co. and you will see the marks. That is all I've done so far. Have no idea of their age (5806 are on mine) or how they came into my family, or if they are of any worth. They have a floral on them, like a cherry blossom or dogwood. I would also appreciate any information. Maureen

Re: Barbour Silver Co/International Silver Co
Barbour Silver Co. 1882 became a division of international Silver in 1898 of Hartford, Ct. The Coffee/Tea Set that I have also bears a marking that was used by Webster & Sons 1865 of Brooklyn, NY. The pattern that I have is of embossed leaves and berries or g grapes. Have not been able to find out what the RSCEP stands for? Any info would be appreciated. Thanks

Barbour Silver Co Repousse Creamer

I have submitted at photo & requested an appraisal for a Barbour Silverplate Repousse creamer, to no avail, as yet. I have no idea of the value, you said you have a Barbour Tea set with the creamer, what type of pattern does it have? I have found several Barbour pieces with Dutch design, mine is not.

I know from what I have read Barbour Silver Co was founded in Meridan Connetticut in 1892 & was the first company absorbed by International Silver. It was then "factory A" but continued to use the Barbour Silver hallmark until 1931.

I have been ubable to find any descriptions of the patterns Barbour Silver Co used prior to ISC merge.

The piece I have is beautiful. I would like to find more pieces like it, but, I fear it will be a life long quest. & Short of traveling to Cn. I may never get any further info.

Barbor Silver and Silver Plate in General
By International conventions all items made of precious metals such as silver in Europe and North America carry marking to indicate their level of purity, such as the word "Sterling", numbers such as " 925" ( 925/1000 parts pure), "800" ( 800/1000 parts pure) or stamped markings referred to as " Hall Marks" that indicate the date made, the maker, city of origin and metal content. The lack of any such markings indicates this set is most likely silver plated. Lovejoy

I have a Wm A Rogers piece I need help with
I have received 2 metal plates or serving plates could be decorative for all I know.  Each has a mark of Wm A Rogers on the back inlaid into a small scroll frame around it.  Each has a decorative etching on the front in the middle.  Each has scalloped edges in some pattern of which I do not know.  The color of the pieces seems to be gold or bronze.. I don't know if that is what the metal is underneath or  if it is a silver piece underneath?  The edges further in has cutout shapes all along the edge of the pieces.  I would like to know the pattern of these 2 pieces and the worth of each one if anyone knows where this can be done? Please Help!!

(can read two end #'s). The tray looks to be copper with silver over it...the copper(?) shows through the underneath as well through the worn silver plate. The engraving in center on the copper that shows is flowers and leaves. The edge all around the tray is 3D of grapes and leaves. In all my search...I can't find a piece like it. I have a pitcher marked Barbour Silver Co. Quadruple around the inside of a circle with SILVER written across the center. The number 2822 is stamped below the circle and the letters K/RBS scratched into the base as well. I assume this is a water pitcher. We would like to gift the pitcher to a nephew who is getting married. Although I believe it probably belonged to my grandmother (born around 1890), but I need to know the age of the pitcher to know that it was my grandmother's and not my parents'. Thanks, Carol
