I would like to say chess sets are the same as anything else, price is relative to the market, size, condition, age, etc. Please dont contact me with a small bone chess set and ask 3k. it is not realistic.
Bone chess sets sell on ebay for $50-$250 based on size and condition.
Ivory chess sets sell on ebay for a little more than that, unless the ivory is 6 inches high you are not going to get 1k for it.

I buy storage units that have defaulted and are sent thru a bid process facilitated by an auctioneer. One of the units I purchased had this chess set. I am not 100% sure if my researching has taken me to the correct information regarding the specific details.
Here are some of the details:
Chinese, Ivory, Hand Carved, Excellent Condition. All of the pieces are very detailed. Only the King, Queen and Bishop have additional detailed artwork designs throughout their entire wardrobe. They all stand on a 1/2" platform.
