This Kentucky Fried Chicken debacle will go down in history as one of the worst advertising blunders in history. I have heard that KFC is no longer accepting the coupons and that you must go into the restaurant and fill out a rain check form in order to receive your free chicken dinner - plus they will evidently throw in a free Pepsi. All I know is that during the original promotion I went to two different KFC restaurants with coupon in hand and both had notes on the entrance to the store that they would not honor the coupons. I heard on the radio that many KFC restaurants were owned by franchisees and that they knew nothing about this promotion beforehand. I also heard that the franchisees were expected to front the costs for all of the free chicken meals. Sounds like someone may be losing their job at KFC over this. Definitely one of the biggest debacles in advertising history.
