Please Appraise Oil Painting
Some items such as oil paintings generally don't get much of a response, mainly because they are not something anyone can really provide any information for without actually examining the piece. This topic has been brought up at least once a week in this forum for years now, which can be accessed via the "Search instappraisal" link at the top right side of the page.
Good luck. I posted a request for an appraisal or information on a very unique chair (adjusable, antique, wood) with a large group of photos from all angles over a month ago and not one comment yet. Search "odd chair" and my post will be at the top of the list, if I can't get an answer with those photos of a piece of furniture you don't stand a chance with a photo of a painting!
seascape oil signed by taylor, in the lower right corner. 36in by 24in.
Nobody can appraise a painting from a basic written description or image, oil paintings for the most part have to be physically examined by a specialist appraiser to determine their origins and authenticity
Good morning, my name is Angelique and I would like to get a painting appraised. It was given to me by my grandmother a few years ago. I believe it is an oil painting of The Captain in the Moby Dick story. On the bottom of the painting its signed C. Jeffares. Can you help me please?
I generally pop in here everyday, but didn't see your post, if you want to repost your request I'll have a look for you.
The website is valuemystuffnow.com
You can get your antiques appraised by real antique experts with a report of your item for as low as $4.59 per item. I already sent in more than 20 items to get appraised and i found out the prices for them.
Such services have been available on the internet since the mid 1990's, and while such services can be good for general collectibles and household contents etc., I'd question what kind of information you'd get regarding an Original Oil painting for $4.59. Appraisers charge $80.00 an hour and up so your $4.59 would buy about three and a half minutes of expertise ;~)
Contrary to popular belief encouraged by the Antiques Roadshow, Fine Arts Appraisers do not carry reams of information around in their head that they can rattle off regarding specific Artists. What you see on the "Roadshow" is theater, meant to fit into a hour long time slot. In reality Appraisers have large libraries of research material, auction sale databases etc. that they use to to verify that the item is what it appears, when it was made and by whom. The Antiques Roadshow has its own traveling library and database hook ups for this purpose.
I'm having the same issue, I placed my painting "Henk Bos still life painting on this site about a month ago I've had no feed back, I'm very confused as to where to go and what to do. I seem to get lost just looking for my add.
The reason your are not getting much of a response is because nobody....and I repeat nobody, can appraise an oil painting from a picture. There are just too many variables involved that cannot be verified without physically examining such pieces. You really need to have an appraiser physically such pieces. All I can tell you is that at auction this year Henk Bos original still life paintings have sold in the $800.00- $1600.00 range, but you'd have to get yours examined to determine what you have.
do continue your work and never lose confidence .one day you got success
As an Appraiser of over 30years, to all those posting requests for oil paintings, the reason your are not getting much of a response is because nobody....and I repeat nobody, can appraise an oil painting from a picture. There are just too many varaibles involved that cannot be verified without physically examining such pieces. You really need to have an appraiser physically such pieces.

The ability to complete an appraisal will depend on if someone who knows about your painting views your request. The Instappraisal community is made up of many different experts in a variety of antique and art disciplines. This is a community-driven web site and as such you are depending on someone within the community who has expertise on your painting. Depending on the rarity of your painting it may take some time before someone answers your request.

I too, placed a pair of sculptures up for appraisal weeks ago. Have had no response at all. I contacted Instappraisal and received a form letter informing me that they would get back to me soon with instructions. Am I required to contact someone regarding interest in my items or will I be contacted? And how will I know? Help!!
